Took the Z for a 2 hour diagnostics yesterday (timing, plugs, injectors...overall engine checkup). Dropped it off at 9:30am. Called them back at 3:30pm only to find out that some trainee mechanic took it for a test drive and wrapped it around the telephone pole. Car is a total loss with a severely bent frame, it skid off the road during a right elbow turn, spun 360 and ended up hitting the Duquesne Light telephone/utility pole. Driver walked away with no injuries. I've talked to the cop that worked the scene, driver got ticketed for "Unsafe Speed", and is at fault. Dealership (West Hills Nissan) has filed it with their insurance company, and will stand behind their employee, and try to make it right for me (for all thats worth). Car is a '91 TT 5-spd with 79k miles. It was stage 4 at the time, plus BOVs, ACT clutch, full adjustable suspension and brembo x-drilled brake kit. I have informed them that I value the car at $16,000 + tax, tag, title (another $1,000) and 50% of all the documented mods (approx $2500). What should I do now, how to handle this? I have a lawyer (at no cost), and am willing to escalate this and take legal action if they try to lowball. Also, I would like to keep this away from my insurance co....any way to do that? Any help appreciated!
